Linda Mitchell joins Deedra and Megan on the podcast to discuss the fire burning in her heart: literacy. Linda tells her family's own literacy journey and how it shaped her own determination to see every home filled with books. Her motto is literacy is liberation, and she uses her education and experience to bring literacy access to book deserts and to partner with communities who need resources.
Linda Mitchell is a former teacher and parent educator for the Parents as Teachers program at St. Louis Public Schools. She has seen the education landscape from the vantage point of the classroom and the living room. Her experiences have shaped her view that the home is the powerhouse for change and the seedbed for literacy culture. She is the founder of the Metro East Literacy Project nonprofit organization and the author of two children’s books. She promotes literacy to adults and children through free book distribution, reading lessons, and reading events. Linda, a Chicago native, now resides in O’Fallon, Illinois with her husband Odell Mitchell Jr. Linda's Literacy Journeys with Linda interviews can be seen on her YouTube channel, Literacy is Liberation and visit Linda's Penny Press Puzzle Lady YouTube channel for tips on solving word puzzles.
